Text to Speech

Have your text read aloud, using your browser's built-in voices. 100% private.

Speed1.0x
Pitch1.0

This tool reads any text aloud using your browser's built-in speech synthesis engine — the same technology behind screen readers and voice assistants. Choose from whichever voices your browser and operating system provide, and adjust speed and pitch to taste.

Everything happens locally on your device via the Web Speech API; the text is never sent to a server.

Common use cases

Proofreading by ear

Hearing your writing read aloud often catches awkward phrasing or errors your eyes skip over.

Accessibility

Have long text content read aloud instead of read on-screen.

Language and pronunciation practice

Hear how words and sentences sound in different available voices/languages.

Tips for best results

  • If a voice sounds robotic or wrong for the language, try a different one from the dropdown — quality and language coverage vary a lot between the voices your OS/browser installs.

Frequently asked questions

Can I download the audio?

Yes — use 'Record & Prepare Download' below the player. It records the tab's own audio while the text plays, so it needs a one-time permission where you share this tab with 'Share tab audio' checked. This only works in Chrome/Edge on desktop, since Firefox and Safari don't support tab-audio capture yet.

Why do the available voices differ from another device?

Voices come from your operating system and browser, not from this tool — different devices ship with different voice sets installed.

Does this tool send my text anywhere?

No — speech is generated entirely on your device using the browser's built-in Speech Synthesis API.
